Governor Nyesom Wike has gifted the civil servants in Rivers state
his first directive since the Supreme court upheld his election, that
any worker who does not have their bank verification numbers will not be
paid their salaries.
The Governor made this disclosure known on
Tuesday, February 2, while addressing Civil Servants at the State
Secretariat Complex in Port Harcourt.
He said, ‘‘I will do everything possible to block every loophole for the
development of the State as the amount of money we pay for salaries is
so much. Therefore, I have directed the Commissioner of Finance to
ensure that anyone without a Bank Verification Number (BVN) is not be
paid salary so as to check excess payments”.
Governor Wike said that there is the need to ascertain the actual number
of pensioners as according to him, the state government allocates N1.4
