“My brother and friend, Prince Abubakar Audu is gone. What a trying period for me, my family and our state,” he wrote on Twitter.Reports of Audu’s death became public after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the poll inconclusive.
“I first met my late brother and friend in 1973 and we have remained ever close since then. Words fail me indeed.
“I have made calls to the family of my late friend to commiserate with them. I have declared a 7-day mourning period in the state. RIP my friend.”
Meanwhile, INEC on Sunday, November 22, declared the governorship election held in Kogi on Saturday as inconclusive.
According to the Commission, the number of cancelled votes was higher than the margin between the leading candidate and the runner-up.
After the 21 local councils’ election results were collated, Mr. Audu, was leading while the incumbent Governor, Captain Wada trailed by a margin less than the number of cancelled votes.
The commission said 49,953 votes were cancelled, which was higher than the margin between the leading candidate and the runner-up.
