The German sports magazine has cited “reliable English sources” and report a contact between Premier League club and the former Barcelona coach was in place from as early as the turn of the 2014/15 season.
Guardiola flew back to Barcelona on Sunday to spend Christmas with his family, but has already agreed to join the Sky Blues at the end of this season.
Chelsea are thought to be the other club chasing Guardiola’s services as they seek a long-term replacement for Jose Mourinho.
