President Of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari has trimmed down the number of
vehicles in the presidential motorcade from 23 to 12, in a bid to reduce
the cost of governance, sources told Daily Trust.
It was however, learnt that Senate President Bukola Saraki and House of
Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara continued to maintain 10 vehicles
in their motorcade each while ministers have a maximum of four vehicles
in their motorcade.
According to more findings, the former President Goodluck Jonathan maintained not less than 23 cars in his motorcade.
Recall, Buhari had on the eve of inaugurating his ministers last month, warned them to avoid large convoys, long protocol and retinue of aides.
Dr Chris Ngige, the minister of labour said the new administration would
be “running a lean economy because we are going to block areas of
leakages. Retinue of aides, protocol staff and large convoys of cars are
things that will not fly in this administration.”
It was learnt that Buhari turned down a request by senior government
officials to buy new cars worth N400 million, not long after he became
president, stressing that he would use the ones left by the former
president.
